Manila Electric Company is taking another step toward strengthening the country’s energy workforce after signing a partnership agreement with the United Professional Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc..
The collaboration aims to help electrical engineers sharpen their technical skills and prepare for emerging technologies that are expected to shape the future of the Philippine energy sector.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), Meralco and UPEEP will work together on capability-building programs, technical research, innovation projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. The partnership will also support the development of industry standards for solar and battery installations while helping build local expertise in nuclear energy.
The agreement was signed by Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco Senior Vice President Ferdinand O. Geluz, UPEEP National President Jovenie F. Tagatac, and UPEEP National Vice President for External Affairs Mark Anjelo U. Estrada.
As part of the partnership, both organizations will conduct technical training sessions, collaborate on advanced engineering research, and develop strategies that support the country’s goals for energy efficiency and sustainability.
Tagatac described the agreement as a strong alliance that combines Meralco’s institutional expertise with the practical experience of professional electrical engineers across the country.
“For UPEEP, joining hands with Meralco is a dynamic alliance. Through this MOU, we are successfully blending high-level institutional capability with the hands-on expertise of our professional electrical engineers,” he said.
Meralco, for its part, said investing in people is just as important as investing in technology.
“At Meralco, we firmly believe that the future of our industry will be shaped not only by technology, but by the capabilities of our people. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to advancing the electrical engineering profession, strengthening technical excellence, and contributing to a safer, more innovative, and future-ready energy sector for the Philippines,” Aperocho said.
The partnership forms part of Meralco’s broader efforts to support innovation in the energy industry and help the country transition toward a more sustainable and future-ready power sector.
