The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has temporarily relieved Gabriel Go, head of its Special Operations Group-Strike Force (SOG-TFRC), from road clearing duties while an investigation into a viral traffic enforcement incident is ongoing.
In a statement released on July 15, the MMDA said it has taken the matter seriously after the video gained traction on social media and prompted letters from various organizations.
According to the agency, Go has been issued a formal show cause order directing him to explain his side in writing as part of the administrative investigation.
While the probe is underway, the MMDA said Go's participation in all road clearing operations has been placed on hold until a final decision is reached.
The viral video drew criticism from teachers' groups and social media users over Go's remarks toward a motorcycle rider, who was identified as a teacher, as well as his decision to upload the encounter online, despite blurring the rider's face.
Go previously stood by his actions, saying traffic laws apply equally to everyone regardless of profession. He also maintained that teachers, as role models for students, should set an example by following the law.
The MMDA emphasized that it is committed to ensuring a fair and impartial investigation, adding that any appropriate action will be based on the results of the inquiry.
