As Super Typhoon Inday approaches, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is calling on shopping mall operators across Luzon to temporarily open their parking areas to the public for overnight parking.

In a memorandum dated July 9, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes asked mall operators to make their parking spaces available starting Thursday evening as a precaution against the expected strong winds and heavy rains. The measure will stay in effect until the typhoon has passed.

The agency said the initiative is meant to provide motorists with safer places to park their vehicles and help reduce the risk of damage during the storm.

To help inform the public, the MMDA's Public Information Office will also share and repost announcements from participating malls so residents can easily find available parking locations.

The MMDA thanked mall operators for their cooperation, saying the joint effort will help protect lives and property as the country prepares for the impact of Super Typhoon Inday.
