Filipino idol group MNL48 has officially announced that it will be ending its activities by the end of May 2026.
In a statement released by P.O.S Inc. on May 20, management said the decision came after “extensive discussions” and careful evaluation of the group’s future operations and sustainability.
According to the company, several factors were considered, including the group’s management structure, long-term operating environment, and the challenges of continuing to support MNL48 in a stable manner moving forward.
The management admitted that despite their efforts to keep the group going, it eventually became difficult to continue its activities.
“We deeply apologize for not being able to fully meet everyone’s expectations in the end,” the statement read.
Alongside the announcement, the group also revealed that the music video for “Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie,” which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday, will serve as MNL48’s final project as a complete group.
Management described the song and music video as a tribute to fans who supported the group through the years, while also carrying the heartfelt emotions of the members themselves.
MNL48, known as the Philippine sister group of Japan’s famous AKB48 franchise, debuted in 2018 and quickly gained a loyal following with its idol-style performances, original Filipino songs, and local versions of popular AKB48 hits.
The company ended its statement by thanking fans, former and current members, staff, and everyone who became part of MNL48’s journey over the years.
The announcement marks the closing chapter of one of the country’s most recognized idol groups in recent years.
