NBI Group Backs Director Matibag Amid Controversy

A group composed of National Bureau of Investigation personnel has formally expressed its support for NBI Director Melvin A. Matibag and the agency’s leadership following the recent incident at the GSIS Building along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City.
In a resolution dated May 20, 2026, the NBI Investigators Mutual Benefit Association (IMBAI) voiced its “strong support” for Matibag and the entire NBI Directorial Staff amid criticisms and accusations surrounding the incident.
The organization also commended the NBI chief and the agents involved, saying they demonstrated professionalism, discipline, integrity, and respect for lawful procedures while carrying out their duties.
According to the group, despite what it described as “damaging and perilous accusations, false allegations, and politically motivated attacks,” members of the bureau remained committed to acting within the bounds of the law and maintaining professionalism under pressure.
IMBAI emphasized the importance of protecting the NBI’s credibility and institutional independence, especially during what it called a period of political uncertainty.
The organization added that preserving the bureau’s integrity, honor, and public trust remains essential in ensuring effective law enforcement and maintaining confidence in the agency’s work.
