More than 1.1 million minimum wage earners in Metro Manila will soon see bigger paychecks after the government approved what it describes as the largest single daily minimum wage increase ever granted in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The new wage order, announced on Tuesday by Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, raises the daily minimum wage by a total of P85, with the increase to be implemented in two stages.

Speaking before market vendors, fisherfolk, construction workers, and other minimum wage earners in Malabon City, Tolentino said the wage adjustment follows the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve workers' wages.

Under Wage Order No. NCR-27, workers in the non-agriculture sector will receive a new minimum daily wage of P780, while employees in the agriculture sector, service and retail establishments with 15 workers or fewer, and manufacturing firms employing fewer than 10 workers will receive P743 per day once the increase is fully implemented.

The first tranche of P60 will take effect on July 19, 2026, while the remaining P25 will be added beginning January 20, 2027.

Tolentino also expressed his appreciation to employers for supporting the wage increase and urged businesses to comply with the new wage order, saying the adjustment would help minimum wage earners cope with rising living costs and better provide for their families.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), together with the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, will conduct information campaigns to guide employers and workers on the implementation of the wage order. The agencies also said they are prepared to assist businesses in addressing any wage distortions that may arise following the increase.

Meanwhile, DOLE said regional wage boards across the country are also reviewing minimum wages in their respective areas, in line with President Marcos' directive for wage assessments to begin within 60 days before the anniversary of each region's latest wage order.
