New Imports Take Center Stage As Magnolia And Phoenix Open Governors' Cup Campaign

Magnolia and Phoenix Super LPG are set to kick off their PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup campaigns on Saturday, with both teams looking to leave their disappointing Commissioner's Cup exits behind.
The Hotshots and the Fuel Masters square off at 7:30 p.m. at the Ynares Center in Montalban as Group B action officially gets underway.
After falling short in the previous conference, both squads are hoping their new imports can provide the spark they need. Magnolia brings in KJ Buffen, a former Ole Miss and UAB standout who impressed in the Indonesian Basketball League after averaging 21.5 points and 11.3 rebounds last season.
Phoenix, meanwhile, will debut BJ Johnson, a veteran forward with NBA experience after stints with the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and Orlando Magic.
The matchup also serves as a rematch of their thrilling Commissioner's Cup meeting, where Phoenix escaped with a narrow 101-98 victory. Magnolia, however, enters the new conference eager to bounce back after suffering a heartbreaking quarterfinal exit against Meralco in an overtime knockout game.
With Group B featuring powerhouse teams such as Barangay Ginebra, Meralco, Rain or Shine, and Blackwater, both Magnolia and Phoenix know that a strong start could be crucial in their race for a Top 4 finish.
