NHCP Calls Out 'Rave Anthem' Video
File
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has issued a statement after a viral video showed partygoers singing the Philippine national anthem in what appeared to be a loud and unruly rave setting.

According to the agency, it received multiple complaints over the weekend regarding a short-form video circulating on social media. The clip shows a crowd chanting the anthem in a rowdy manner during what seems to be an outdoor rave party held under a marquee.

Initial findings suggest the event may have taken place in the United States around December 2025. However, the NHCP clarified that Philippine laws cannot be enforced outside the country, limiting its ability to pursue legal action against those involved.

Despite this, the commission reminded Filipinos—especially those living abroad—that national symbols remain protected under Republic Act No. 8491.

Sections 37 and 38 of the law clearly state that the national anthem must be performed in accordance with the original composition of Julian Felipe and “shall not be played and sung for mere recreation, amusement or entertainment purposes.”

The NHCP acknowledged that expressions of patriotism may come from good intentions but stressed the importance of respect and cultural sensitivity. It warned that careless actions, even if meant to inspire, could be misinterpreted or cause offense.

“The freedom and rights which we enjoy today was paid for by the blood, sweat and tears of our heroes. Our duty, as heirs to this invaluable legacy, is to exercise this freedom responsibly,” the commission said.

The agency urged the public to remain mindful when using national symbols, emphasizing that patriotism must always be expressed with respect and responsibility.
