A controversy has emerged after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed human trafficking complaints before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office against the spouse and daughter of former congressman Mike Defensor.
According to the NBI, the individuals were allegedly listed in the articles of incorporation as owners of a club that was recently raided by authorities as part of an anti-trafficking operation.
In response, Julie Defensor issued a strongly worded statement denying any involvement in the establishment or its operations.
“I am issuing this statement to categorically and forcefully deny the baseless, malicious allegations directed at me, my daughter, and our associated businesses.”
She emphasized that their family has “absolutely no connection to the targeted establishment or its operations,” calling any attempt to link them to the alleged activities a “deliberate, dangerous, and desperate lie.”
Defensor further claimed that the accusations are part of an orchestrated smear campaign aimed at damaging their reputation and justifying the filing of what she described as unwarranted charges.
She also highlighted the broader impact of the controversy, saying that around 1,000 employees across related businesses have lost their jobs due to the issue, affecting families who depend on those livelihoods.
“This is part of a relentless pattern of harassment, and the collateral damage is devastating.”
Addressing National Bureau of Investigation director Atty. Melvin Matibag directly in her statement, Defensor urged that any personal or political disputes involving her husband should be handled directly, instead of involving her, their daughter, and employees.
The NBI has yet to release further details on the extent of evidence supporting the complaints, as the case now moves forward for preliminary investigation at the prosecutor’s office.
