Students in the Municipality of Dumanjug, Cebu, will have to leave their mobile phones at home as Mayor Efren Gica rolls out a strict no-phone policy in all schools beginning Monday.
In a public statement, Gica made it clear that the municipality is implementing a total ban on mobile phones inside school premises, with no exceptions.
Under the new policy, any student caught bringing a phone to school will have the device confiscated. It will only be returned at the end of the school year.
The mayor also emphasized that families who do not agree with the policy are free to enroll their children in schools outside the municipality.
According to Gica, the goal is to help students focus on what truly matters inside the classroom. He said he wants children to spend more time reading, studying, and interacting with their classmates instead of being distracted by their phones.
He also encouraged parents to do their part once children are back home by talking with them about their lessons, monitoring their progress in school, and strengthening family relationships through meaningful conversations and quality time.
The policy reflects the local government's effort to promote better learning habits and reduce distractions among students as classes continue.
