The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has strongly condemned the reported hit-and-run incident involving a member of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), emphasizing that those responsible must face the full force of the law.

Napolcom Commissioner Rafael Vicente R. Calinisan said reckless imprudence does not require intent, noting that failing to exercise due diligence and proper care while driving is enough to warrant accountability. He stressed that there should be no escape from responsibility and no special treatment for anyone, adding that no person has the right to endanger the lives of others through excessive speed, anger, or negligence.

Calinisan underscored that Napolcom has long advocated accountability for police officers who violate the law. At the same time, he said the commission remains equally committed to protecting law enforcers who become victims while faithfully carrying out their duties.

According to the commissioner, the law exists to protect both the public and those sworn to serve it. He maintained that anyone whose actions endanger lives and undermine lawful authority must face the consequences, stressing that no one is above the law.

The statement came amid public attention surrounding the reported incident involving a PNP-HPG rider on SLEX. While authorities have yet to release complete details of the case, the incident has reignited calls for accountability and stricter discipline within the police force.

The PNP-HPG has been actively promoting road safety and strengthening its enforcement operations across the country. The unit regularly conducts traffic management, anti-carnapping operations, and road safety campaigns aimed at protecting motorists and commuters.

The Philippine National Police has likewise maintained its policy of zero tolerance for misconduct among its ranks and has repeatedly vowed to pursue both criminal and administrative charges against personnel found to have violated the law.

As the investigation continues, Napolcom reiterated that justice must prevail and that public servants should be held to the same standards they are sworn to uphold, with Calinisan insisting that there should be no exemptions or preferential treatment in the enforcement of the law.
