Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte issued a strongly worded statement criticizing the administration ahead of the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA), questioning what he described as the government’s claimed reforms and their impact on ordinary Filipinos.

Duterte said many Filipinos continue to raise concerns about the direction of governance, arguing that despite official pronouncements, day-to-day challenges such as rising prices, flooding, and economic difficulties remain unresolved.

As the SONA approaches, he urged the President to clearly present concrete achievements that are directly felt by the public, rather than what he described as speeches filled with buzzwords, slogans, and staged applause in Congress.

He stressed that what matters to citizens are tangible results and improvements in their quality of life, not presentation-style political messaging.

Duterte also pointed to the contrast between government preparations for high-profile events and the daily struggles of Filipinos, saying many are still dealing with inflation, disaster risks, and other recurring hardships.

In his statement, he also reacted to remarks attributed to the President about political alliances in the 2022 elections, particularly the UniTeam partnership. Duterte said the electoral victory was the result of broad coalition support, including significant backing from Vice President Sara Duterte, alongside other political groups across the country.

He added that it is important to recognize the role of all coalition partners in securing the mandate, rather than attributing the outcome to a single narrative.

Duterte further said that instead of focusing on political legacy debates, the administration should prioritize addressing whether its programs are truly delivering long-term benefits to the Filipino people.

He emphasized that public judgment will not be based on applause or reactions inside Congress, but on whether the government has fulfilled its promises since taking office in 2022.

The lawmaker closed his statement by echoing public sentiment demanding stronger and more visible action on national concerns, reflecting growing impatience over unfulfilled expectations.
