Thousands of Pasigueños from different sectors may soon gain better access to financial education following a new partnership between the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Pasig City Government, and BDO Foundation.

The three institutions recently signed a memorandum of agreement aimed at helping residents improve their money management skills, make informed financial decisions, and avoid financial scams and fraud.

The initiative is expected to benefit a broad range of community members, including students, teachers, senior citizens, market vendors, jeepney and tricycle drivers, micro-entrepreneurs, cooperatives, solo parents, relocated families, homeowners’ associations, and young people.

“Our call is simple: Let us bring financial education closer to the people and help ensure that financial services are accessible, safe, and truly useful para walang Pilipinong maiiwan,” BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.

As part of the program, the BSP and BDO Foundation will train local financial education advocates who will later conduct learning sessions and workshops across the city.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto emphasized the importance of improving financial literacy among residents.

“Kailangang magtrabaho tayong lahat para mapataas ang lebel ng financial literacy sa ating lunsod, sa ating bayan, dahil marami sa mga problema natin, pwede namang ma-solusyunan kung sana mas marunong tayo mag-manage, maghawak ng pera natin.”

The BSP will provide technical guidance, educational materials, and direct financial education sessions to support the project. Meanwhile, BDO Foundation will help strengthen the program through its expertise in community-based financial literacy initiatives.

“Through this collaboration, we hope to give practical knowledge and tools that can truly be applied and make a difference in people’s everyday lives,” said BDO Foundation President Mario Deriquito.

Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda, who also attended the signing ceremony, highlighted the benefits of adopting digital payments.

“Unang una, mas mabilis yung serbisyo, mas magiging transparent, at mas makakabuti sa ating lahat.”

The partnership forms part of ongoing efforts to expand financial education at the local level and equip more Filipinos with the knowledge needed to make sound financial decisions and build a more secure future.
