Andrei Caracut has been unanimously named the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for May 13 to 16 after powering Rain or Shine back to the semifinals of the Commissioner’s Cup with a huge all-around performance.
Caracut also delivered the goods on the court amid online chatter linking him to volleyball star Bella Belen, who was among the crowd watching at the Ynares Center in Antipolo last Friday.
The Elasto Painters guard erupted for 29 points, draining six three-pointers and adding a crucial four-point shot as Rain or Shine pulled off a 113-104 win over San Miguel Beer to clinch the series.
The victory sent the No. 3 seeded ROS squad back to the Final Four after a disappointing quarterfinal exit in the previous Philippine Cup.
San Miguel, the reigning All-Filipino champion, made things tense after erasing a double-digit deficit and threatening a comeback, but Caracut took over in the closing stretch. He scored 12 points in the fourth quarter alone to steady Rain or Shine down the stretch.
His biggest moment came at the 3:07 mark of the final period, when he drilled a booming four-point shot that sparked a decisive 12-7 finishing run to finally put the Beermen away.
After the game, Caracut brushed off the growing social media buzz surrounding his name, keeping things light when asked about the inspiration behind his strong showing.
He credited the hard work of his teammates for fueling his energy on the floor, saying it was motivating to see everyone’s effort day in and day out. He even joked that the support of teammates’ partners in the stands adds to the positive vibe around the team.
For Rain or Shine, it was more than just a semifinal ticket—it was a statement win led by a guard in peak form.
