The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed six K9 rescue teams to assist ongoing search and rescue (SAR) operations following a collapsed structure incident in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga on May 24, 2026.
According to the PCG, the K9 units—composed of six Coast Guard Working Dogs (CGWDs) and 12 SAR personnel—arrived at the site at around 10:45 a.m., roughly an hour after the incident was reported at 9:30 a.m.
After undergoing a coordinated SAR and safety briefing, the teams began operations in Sector 1 at around 7:45 p.m. It was during this phase that CGWDs Summit, Theo, and Travis gave positive indications in a specific area of the rubble.
Joint engineering and rescue teams subsequently conducted careful debris removal in the identified location, which led to the recovery of one deceased individual (cadaver) at approximately 3:40 a.m. on May 25, 2026.
As of the latest media update, at least four people have been confirmed dead while 17 others remain missing as search and rescue operations continue in the area.
PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said the same K9 units had previously demonstrated effectiveness during the 2025 landslide response in Iruhin West, Tagaytay City.
“The Philippine Coast Guard remains fully committed to supporting inter-agency humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations to ensure the safety and welfare of affected families,” Cayabyab said.
She also emphasized that through the Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign, the PCG continues to strengthen rapid response efforts in line with the government’s disaster preparedness and emergency response programs.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the structural collapse, while search and clearing operations continue as teams assess whether additional victims remain trapped under the debris.
