PH Takes ASEAN-BAC Helm, Marcos Sets Tone For Unity And Growth

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored determination, regional cooperation, and forward-looking leadership as the Philippines officially assumed the 2026 chairship of the ASEAN-Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).
The ceremonial handover, held at Malacañan Palace on Thursday, marked the transition of leadership from Malaysia to the Philippines. Marcos highlighted that the country is ready to steer ASEAN-BAC toward expanded trade, stronger investments, and more inclusive economic growth across Southeast Asia.
During the ceremony, Marcos emphasized that the Philippines is taking on the role with a sense of gratitude for the groundwork laid by previous chairships, paired with a clear determination to build on that momentum. He noted that the nation’s leadership will be guided by ASEAN’s 2026 theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” which reflects the region’s shared challenges and aspirations.
The President pointed to the rapid economic transformation and technological advancements shaping Southeast Asia, stressing that regional progress must be anchored in cooperation, trust, and accountability. By strengthening partnerships and maintaining open collaboration, ASEAN member-states can turn uncertainties into opportunities and ensure long-term, sustainable development.
Marcos also acknowledged the ASEAN-BAC’s ongoing efforts to push initiatives that are responsive, inclusive, and aligned with the region’s evolving needs. He encouraged continued investment in ASEAN’s people, partnerships, and long-term vision for shared prosperity.
