President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. took the lead in an inter-agency meeting at Malacañang on Monday, reviewing the country’s preparations for its upcoming role as ASEAN Chair in 2026. He stressed that the chairmanship should translate into concrete benefits not just for Filipinos, but for the entire region.

During the meeting, government officials discussed priority plans focused on creating jobs, supporting small businesses, improving digital services, and strengthening programs that directly impact citizens.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Philippines is “fully ready” to take on the ASEAN Chair responsibilities.

The President also highlighted ASEAN’s role in supporting the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, especially with the upcoming BIMP-EAGA meeting at the ASEAN Summit. Agencies continue to coordinate closely to ensure the summits are smooth, safe, and well-organized.

Recently, the Philippines successfully hosted the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Retreat and the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Cebu, proving the country’s capability to manage international gatherings.

As one of ASEAN’s founding members, the Philippines is set to host the 48th and 49th ASEAN Summits this year, marking the fourth time the country will welcome leaders to the international stage.
