Senator Pia Cayetano has been reappointed as chairperson of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, one of the most powerful investigative panels in the Senate of the Philippines tasked with probing alleged corruption and irregularities in government.
Cayetano confirmed her designation in a statement released Wednesday, May 20, expressing appreciation for the trust and confidence of Senate leadership. She said she does not take the responsibility lightly and is prepared to immediately take on the committee’s workload.
As part of her return to the post, Cayetano said she will begin reviewing all matters already referred to the Blue Ribbon Committee. She noted her experience as a lawyer, former committee chair, and senior member of the Senate as part of her readiness to resume the role.
The Blue Ribbon Committee is mandated to investigate possible misconduct involving public officials, government agencies, and transactions, and is considered one of the Senate’s key oversight bodies.
Cayetano previously held the committee chairmanship in earlier sessions of the Senate, and her reappointment is expected to shape the panel’s investigative priorities in the coming months as it takes on pending referrals.
