PLDT wasted no time making a statement in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, stunning league powerhouse Creamline with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 sweep Thursday night at the FilOil Playtime Centre in San Juan.
What many expected to be a long, drawn-out duel quickly turned into a High Speed Hitters showcase. PLDT weathered Creamline’s late push in the opening set, then firmly took control in the next two behind poise, grit, and relentless defense.
The third set provided the night’s biggest drama as Creamline erased a 17-20 deficit to tie it at 23. But Savi Davison refused to blink, hammering a crucial hit to reach match point before Jovie Prado and Majoy Baron sealed the win with a stuff block on Tots Carlos. A Creamline challenge failed, confirming PLDT’s biggest win of the young season in just 1 hour and 28 minutes.
Davison led the charge with 26 points and a triple-double effort, adding 11 digs and 10 receptions. Kim Dy chipped in nine points, while Prado, Baron, and Mika Reyes provided steady support as PLDT outgunned Creamline 45-38 and dominated at the net.
Bernadette Pons paced Creamline with 13 points in her return, while Alyssa Valdez and Bea De Leon had five each in a rare quiet night for the 10-time champions.
More than just an opening win, the sweep reinforced PLDT’s growing belief that it is ready to challenge the league’s elite—not just chase them.
