Plunder Case Looms Over Top Officials
FILE
The Office of the Ombudsman is reportedly preparing a plunder case involving high-profile government figures over alleged irregularities in the national budget process.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed that his office has been seriously building a case against former Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez and former Senate President Francis Escudero. The investigation is said to be linked to issues surrounding the budgetary process for fiscal years 2024 and 2025.

While details remain limited, the development signals a potentially major legal battle involving two of the country’s most prominent political figures. Authorities have yet to disclose specific allegations, but the mention of plunder—a serious non-bailable offense—underscores the gravity of the case being prepared.

The Ombudsman’s move comes amid increasing calls for transparency and accountability in government spending, particularly in the handling and allocation of public funds.

As of now, no formal charges have been publicly filed, and both officials have yet to release statements regarding the matter. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
