The Philippine National Police on Tuesday credited intensified intelligence operations and close coordination among security forces for the peaceful and violence-free filing of certificates of candidacy in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. welcomed the report from the Commission on Elections confirming that no untoward incidents were recorded during the three-day filing period for the region’s first parliamentary elections.

“The zero-incident report from Comelec is a testament to the collective desire of the Bangsamoro people for a peaceful transition,” Nartatez said.

He added that while authorities consider the peaceful filing a positive sign, security forces would remain on alert ahead of the Sept. 14 BARMM parliamentary elections.

Earlier, Comelec chairman George Garcia reported that the May 5 to 7 filing of certificates of candidacy ended peacefully across all 32 parliamentary districts in BARMM.

According to Nartatez, the successful and orderly filing was the result of early coordination between local police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and community leaders in the region.

The PNP also deployed more than 9,000 personnel, including elite Special Action Force units, to secure key areas and deter possible threats during the filing period.

“We attribute this success to the synergy between our local police units, the AFP, and community leaders,” the PNP chief said, adding that intelligence-driven operations helped neutralize potential threats even before candidates arrived at Comelec offices.

Nartatez also reminded police commanders and personnel in BARMM to stay vigilant and strictly non-partisan as the region prepares for its historic parliamentary elections.

“Our mission is to ensure that the ‘rule of the ballot’ remains supreme over the ‘rule of the gun,’” he said.

The BARMM parliamentary elections are scheduled on Sept. 14 following the enactment of a law signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. adjusting the election timetable.

The first set of elected BARMM officials will serve a five-year term from October 2026 to June 2031, after which future parliamentary elections will be synchronized with national polls every three years.
