The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed lower on Tuesday, ending the trading day with a sharp decline as selling activity outpaced gains across the market.

The benchmark index fell by 96.24 points, or 1.57 percent, to finish at 6,037.17.

Market turnover reached P6.7 billion, reflecting active trading during the session. Declining stocks also outnumbered advancing issues, with 112 losers against 78 gainers, while 40 stocks ended unchanged.

Foreign investors remained net sellers for the day. Foreign buying totaled P3.94 billion, while foreign selling reached P4.28 billion, resulting in a net foreign selling position of approximately P342.22 million.

The day's performance pushed the PSEi below the 6,100 level, highlighting continued cautious sentiment among investors as market participants monitored both domestic and global developments.

Despite the decline, trading activity remained healthy, with billions of pesos worth of shares changing hands throughout the session.
