The Philippine stock market stayed under pressure on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, with the PSEi extending its decline as cautious trading and foreign selling weighed on investor sentiment.
By the end of the session, the benchmark index closed at 5,971.98, down 14.87 points or 0.25 percent. The market once again struggled to regain the 6,000 level, a key psychological mark closely watched by traders.
Investor mood remained largely cautious throughout the day, with decliners continuing to outnumber gainers. A total of 107 stocks ended lower, while 78 advanced and 62 were unchanged, reflecting the market’s generally bearish tone.
Despite the softer performance, trading activity remained active, with total value turnover reaching PHP 9.4 billion. Foreign investors also stayed heavily involved in the market, but selling activity still outweighed buying.
Data from the session showed foreign buying at around PHP 5.49 billion, while foreign selling reached approximately PHP 5.60 billion. This left the market with net foreign selling of about PHP 107.55 million, signaling that overseas investors remained cautious on local equities.
Analysts said the market continues to search for a strong catalyst that could help reverse the recent weakness, as investors remain selective amid ongoing economic and global uncertainties.
For now, the local bourse remains stuck in a cautious trading environment, with the PSEi still finding it difficult to build momentum above the 6,000 level.
