The Philippine stock market ended lower on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as the benchmark PSEi closed in negative territory, weighed down by stronger foreign selling activity.
The index finished at 5,989.56, down 29.14 points or 0.48%, reflecting a cautious trading session despite mixed market participation.
Market turnover reached ₱5.9 billion, with advances trailing decliners. A total of 83 stocks advanced, while 105 declined, and 66 remained unchanged, signaling a slightly bearish tone across the board.
Foreign investors also leaned on the selling side. Data showed foreign buying at ₱3.14 billion, while foreign selling reached ₱3.64 billion, resulting in a net foreign selling position of ₱497.6 million.
Analysts typically view sustained net foreign selling as a sign of profit-taking or reduced risk appetite from overseas investors, which can weigh on overall market sentiment in the short term.
Despite the dip, trading activity remained active, with investors continuing to adjust positions amid broader economic and global market signals.
The PSEi’s movement highlights the ongoing volatility in local equities as investors balance domestic fundamentals with external pressures.
