The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) tumbled sharply on Wednesday, June 24, closing below the key 6,000 level as investors continued to unload shares amid market uncertainty.

The benchmark index ended the trading session at 5,991.37, down 134.85 points or 2.20 percent from the previous close. The decline marked one of the market's steepest drops in recent sessions, reflecting cautious sentiment among traders.

Market activity remained robust, with total turnover reaching PHP 10.3 billion. However, losers heavily outnumbered gainers, with 104 stocks declining against just 67 advancers, while 63 issues ended unchanged.

The latest drop extends the market's recent weakness, pushing the PSEi further into correction territory and erasing gains made earlier in the year. Investors largely remained on the sidelines as concerns over global economic conditions and risk-off sentiment weighed on local equities.

Analysts will be closely watching upcoming economic data and corporate developments for signs that could help stabilize market sentiment in the coming days.
