PTFOMS Calls Out Bacolod Broadcaster Over Remarks Joking About Rape

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security has expressed serious concern over controversial remarks made by a radio broadcaster in Bacolod City that allegedly made light of rape and violence against women.
In a statement released Thursday, PTFOMS said the comments were “deeply disturbing” and stressed that jokes or statements trivializing sexual violence have no place in responsible broadcasting and journalism.
The agency emphasized that while freedom of expression and press freedom remain essential in a democratic society, media practitioners also carry the responsibility of promoting professionalism, decency, and respect for human dignity.
According to PTFOMS, public platforms should never be used to normalize violence, demean victims, or spread harmful narratives under the guise of humor.
The task force also warned that comments treating rape and violence against women as jokes could undermine ongoing efforts to strengthen gender sensitivity and create safer spaces both in media and in society.
PTFOMS acknowledged that the broadcaster involved has already issued a public apology, but said the incident should still serve as a wake-up call for media practitioners and content creators regarding the impact of their words on the public.
The agency also urged media organizations, broadcasters’ groups, and regulatory bodies to strengthen ethical standards, accountability measures, and gender sensitivity training within the industry.
PTFOMS reiterated its commitment to supporting a free but responsible media environment where press freedom is exercised alongside accountability and respect for human rights.
