The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is taking the game beyond Metro Manila once again as the 2026 PVL On Tour Showdown kicks off Wednesday in Ilagan City, Isabela, bringing top-level volleyball and fan engagement to different parts of the country.
The preseason tour opens with a doubleheader featuring four of the league's top clubs before moving to Batangas on July 11, Vigan City on July 25, Polomolok, South Cotabato on Aug. 1, Santiago City on Aug. 8, Lanao del Norte on Aug. 15, and a final stop on Aug. 22 at a venue that has yet to be announced.
According to PVL Control Committee chairman Sherwin Malonzo, the preseason tour gives fans outside Metro Manila the opportunity to experience live PVL action while allowing teams to build chemistry and prepare for the upcoming season.
To keep every match highly competitive, the league will award P100,000 to the winning team, while the losing side will still receive P50,000.
The PVL is also introducing a mandatory playing-time rule to promote player development. All 14 players listed on a team's roster must enter the match before the end of the second set and take part in at least three rallies. After that, coaches will have full control of their rotations under modified substitution rules.
National team players who are part of an official Philippine delegation or are attending national team activities will not be allowed to play in the preseason tour. They may only suit up if they are not included in an official national team commitment.
Adding a fresh twist to the competition is the return of the "Premier Ball," a special rule first introduced during the PVL All-Star Game. Once per set, a team captain may activate a special-colored ball, with the winner of that rally earning two points instead of one.
To ensure fair competition, the Premier Ball cannot be used to clinch a set. It may only be activated before either team reaches 22 points in the first four sets or 12 points in a deciding fifth set.
