Rage Coalition Backs Senate Probe, Slams Alleged Cover-Up

The Rage Coalition has thrown its full support behind Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and ongoing Senate investigations, while strongly criticizing what it described as efforts to block corruption inquiries and silence key witnesses.

In a joint statement released on June 7, the group accused certain political figures of attempting to derail investigations into alleged large-scale misuse of public funds. The coalition said the controversy goes beyond politics and involves what it believes is an attack on the Senate’s independence and constitutional role.

The group pointed to the testimony of 18 former Philippine Marines who, several months ago, publicly raised allegations involving the misuse of government funds. According to the coalition, the former Marines had identified individuals they believed were involved in a massive corruption network, but their claims were allegedly ignored by previous Senate leadership.

The statement also praised recent leadership changes in the Senate, saying these developments allowed investigations to move forward. The coalition cited the appointment of Senator Pia Cayetano to lead the Blue Ribbon Committee and Senator Dante Marcoleta to head the Sub-Committee on Flood Control as signs of a renewed push for accountability.

The Rage Coalition further criticized the recent Senate leadership dispute, claiming that efforts to reorganize key committees were conducted improperly and were intended to prevent further scrutiny of corruption allegations.

The group also expressed concern over reports that the 18 former Marines faced threats and obstacles before appearing at a Senate hearing. It specifically accused government officials of attempting to prevent the former servicemen from entering the Senate premises and sharing their testimony.

Calling for the protection of democratic institutions, the coalition stressed the importance of an independent Senate capable of conducting investigations without political interference.

“The Senate must reclaim its role as the ultimate constitutional anchor-acting not as a rubber stamp for executive overreach, but as a fierce, independent guardian of the public purse and the rule of law.”

The coalition also vowed to continue supporting the former Marines and their efforts to bring information to the public.

“The Marines have spoken, and they will say more. We will not allow their voices to be silenced by illegal decrees or physical intimidation.”

The statement concluded with a call for accountability and transparency, declaring:

“LET THEM BE HEARD.”

“LET ACCOUNTABILITY AND JUSTICE PREVAIL.”

The statement was signed by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, former congressman Michael Defensor, and former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who serve as convenors of the Rage Coalition.
