The Philippine National Police has condemned what it described as a senseless and cowardly ambush that left five police officers dead in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur on the evening of March 28, 2026.
In a statement, the police said members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company were attacked by unidentified armed suspects while en route back to their detachment following patrol and visibility operations.
The assault also left three other officers wounded. They are currently receiving medical treatment.
“This heinous act is a direct assault on law enforcement and a threat to peace and order,” the PNP said.
Authorities have launched intensified hot pursuit operations, coordinating closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to identify and arrest those responsible.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Mindanao, where armed groups and long-standing local conflicts continue to pose risks despite years of peace-building efforts and the establishment of the Bangsamoro autonomous region.
The PNP assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We will not waver. This attack will not go unanswered. Justice will be swift, certain, and uncompromising.”
The police force also extended its condolences to the families of the slain officers, honoring their service and sacrifice in the line of duty.
