Adiong: Stop Online Attacks, Focus On Evidence In VP Impeachment Case

House trial spokesperson Zia Alonto Adiong on Monday raised concern over what he described as a growing effort by some supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte to discredit prosecutors, witnesses, and the impeachment process through online attacks instead of addressing the allegations directly.

The statement comes as impeachment proceedings against Duterte move through pre-trial stages, where both the prosecution and defense are expected to identify evidence and witnesses that will be presented before the impeachment court.

Adiong said the pattern he is observing appears to shift attention away from the substance of the case and toward social media narratives and personal attacks.

He added that rather than addressing the accusations head-on, some efforts appear focused on undermining those involved in building the case.

“Kung minsan, parang mas interesado silang sirain ang mga taong naghaharap ng ebidensya kaysa sagutin ang mga ebidensyang iyon,” he said.

According to Adiong, the recent pre-trial proceedings should have helped narrow the focus toward key issues and evidence, but public discussion has instead been dominated by online disputes.

He stressed that many questions surrounding the case remain unanswered, particularly regarding the identity and credibility of potential witnesses who could either support or refute the allegations.

Adiong also cited continuing public curiosity around individuals mentioned during earlier congressional discussions linked to the investigation, including:

Despite the heated political and online environment surrounding the case, Adiong emphasized that questioning or attacking witnesses does not replace the need to present actual evidence in court.

He urged the public to remain focused on verified information as the impeachment process continues, warning against misinformation that could distort public understanding of the proceedings.
