As the country prepares to mark the 40th anniversary of EDSA on February 25, 2026, the National Capital Region Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines is making one thing clear — it respects the people’s right to peacefully assemble.
In an official statement, NCRCOM acknowledged the scheduled gathering in Metro Manila connected to the EDSA commemoration. The command emphasized that Filipinos have the constitutional right to assemble and express their views, and that this right will be upheld.
The AFP also reiterated that it remains strictly non-partisan and faithful to its constitutional mandate. It explained that maintaining peace and order during public assemblies is primarily the responsibility of the Philippine National Police, while the AFP, through NCRCOM, stands ready to provide support if requested and in accordance with established coordination and operational guidelines.
Officials added that appropriate security and readiness measures are already in place as part of routine preparations. These efforts are meant to help ensure public safety while fully respecting civil liberties, supporting what is expected to be a peaceful and orderly commemoration.
The AFP affirmed its commitment to protecting the people and securing the State, upholding professionalism, neutrality, and respect for democratic processes as the nation remembers a defining moment in its history.
