AFP Raises Red Alert In Metro Manila Amid INC Rally

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has placed all its units in the National Capital Region (NCR) under Red Alert Status to ensure heightened operational readiness as authorities monitor the ongoing Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally in Quezon City.
AFP Public Affairs Office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said the heightened alert is a standard operational measure that keeps military personnel and assets ready to support civil authorities if requested, in accordance with the Constitution, existing laws, and established procedures.
The AFP clarified that the Red Alert Status does not mean the military is taking over law enforcement duties. Instead, it ensures that troops and resources are prepared to assist the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies when necessary.
The military also said it continues to coordinate closely with the PNP and other concerned agencies to help maintain public safety, security, and the uninterrupted delivery of essential services.
The heightened alert comes as the Iglesia ni Cristo holds a large gathering in Quezon City after the city government granted a permit for the event. Authorities earlier estimated that around 100,000 participants would attend the day-long rally.
In a separate statement, the AFP reaffirmed its respect for every Filipino's constitutional right to peacefully assemble and express their views. At the same time, it reminded organizers and participants to comply with existing laws, local regulations, and the conditions of the permits issued by the appropriate authorities.
The military also urged organizers to ensure that the gathering remains peaceful and orderly while minimizing disruptions to public order and the daily activities of commuters, workers, students, and other members of the public.
The AFP emphasized that it remains a professional and non-partisan institution committed to upholding the rule of law, respecting human rights, protecting the rights of all Filipinos, and fulfilling its constitutional mandate to safeguard the nation.
