Filipino tennis star Alex Eala has reached a new career‑high, climbing to world No. 31 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings — the highest ever for her young career and a historic milestone for Philippine tennis.
The 20‑year-old jumped 16 spots from No. 47, propelled by a strong showing at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, one of the most prestigious events outside the Grand Slams. In Dubai, she recorded a career-defining win over world No. 8 Jasmine Paolini before eventually losing in the quarterfinals to world No. 4 Coco Gauff of the United States.
Eala’s rise reflects her rapid climb through the WTA ranks over the past year, moving from outside the top 100 to just shy of the top 30. Along the way, she has earned recognition for defeating higher-ranked opponents and consistently advancing deep into major tournaments.
Looking ahead, Eala is set to compete in other major events this season, including the Indian Wells Open and the Miami Open, both WTA 1000 tournaments that attract the sport’s elite players.
With her momentum showing no signs of slowing, many fans and analysts are watching to see if she can break into the WTA top 30 and continue making history as one of the Philippines’ most promising athletes on the global stage.
