Alexandra "Alex" Eala continued her historic run at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships after becoming the first Filipino woman to reach the third round of a Grand Slam singles tournament.

The 21-year-old Filipina booked her place in the Round of 32 after outlasting Australia's Maya Joint in a thrilling three-set match, adding another milestone to her growing list of achievements on the international stage.

The victory came just days after Eala earned her first main-draw win at Wimbledon with a dominant straight-set victory over Mexico's Renata Zarazúa, making this her best-ever finish at the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam.

Eala entered this year's tournament as the No. 29 seed, becoming the first Filipina ever to be seeded in a Grand Slam singles event. She arrived at Wimbledon riding a wave of confidence after capturing the Birmingham Open title and reaching the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open during the grass-court season.

Her latest achievement further cements her place in Philippine tennis history. Since turning professional, Eala has steadily climbed the WTA rankings and has become the country's highest-ranked female tennis player in the Open Era, inspiring a new generation of Filipino athletes.

With a spot in the third round secured, Eala now has the opportunity to continue her breakthrough Wimbledon campaign and add another chapter to her historic season.
