Former President and Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has expressed her support for Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla following reports circulating online about a possible impeachment complaint against him.

In a statement, Arroyo recalled that Remulla served as a CESO Assistant Secretary in the Office of then-President Joseph Estrada during the events leading to EDSA Dos. She said that instead of holding on to the security of his civil service position, Remulla voluntarily stepped aside, allowing her to freely organize Malacañang after she assumed the presidency.

Arroyo also noted that Remulla later became one of her allies when he was elected to Congress during her administration, where she said he played an important role in advancing legislative measures and carrying out oversight work that supported her government's policies.

Because of that history, Arroyo said she would oppose any impeachment resolution that may be filed against the Ombudsman in the House of Representatives.

She added that impeachment is ultimately a political process and said that, if given the opportunity, her vote would be in support of Ombudsman Remulla.
