Members of the Ateneo community came together on June 11 at the Zen Garden for a candle-lighting vigil honoring student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

The gathering drew students, faculty members, and supporters who lit candles in a solemn show of unity and remembrance. The quiet event reflected the community’s grief, as well as its commitment to stand together during a difficult moment for the university’s athletics program.

The Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team also attended the vigil, joined by head coach Tab Baldwin. His presence marked his first public appearance since the incident, drawing attention from members of the community who saw it as a gesture of support for the grieving families and teammates.

While details surrounding the incident remain limited, the vigil served as a space for reflection and solidarity, a hallmark of how the Ateneo de Manila University community often responds to loss—through prayer, presence, and collective mourning.

The Zen Garden was filled with candlelight as attendees paused in silence, offering prayers and messages of comfort for the two student-athletes remembered not only for their roles in sports, but also for the lives they shared within the campus community.
