Atong Ang Camp Hands Over Guns; One Still Reported Missing
FILE
MANILA — The camp of businessman Charlie Ang surrendered five of his firearms to police authorities on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after the Philippine National Police (PNP) revoked his license to own and carry guns. Officials confirmed that one firearm remains unaccounted for.
Ang’s lawyer turned over the firearms to the Mandaluyong City Police Station following a directive from the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).
Acting FEO chief Police Brig. Gen. Jose Manalad said five guns were surrendered, while another firearm was not turned in because it was reported lost. Authorities accepted the affidavit and police blotter documenting the disappearance of the missing weapon.
The surrendered firearms included:
• a Colt 5.56 rifle with magazines and ammunition
• a Glock 9mm pistol with multiple magazines and ammo
• a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol
• a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver with ammunition
• a 9mm pistol with magazine and bullets
Manalad said the guns will remain in the custody of the Mandaluyong police station unless they are formally transferred to the FEO’s supply accountable officer.
The surrender comes as Ang remains at large amid investigations and court orders tied to the high-profile case involving the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts, known locally as “sabungeros.” The PNP has issued multiple arrest warrants against him in connection with kidnapping and related criminal charges.
Authorities have also revoked the licenses for six firearms registered to Ang.
A ₱10-million reward has been offered for information leading to Ang’s arrest. Police say he is still believed to be in the Philippines, although his exact whereabouts remain unknown.
Investigators are also probing reports that some police officers — active or retired — may have helped Ang evade capture, and they are reviewing possible administrative or criminal charges against anyone found to have assisted him.
As the firearms surrender highlights the legal fallout from the license revocation, authorities continue to pursue Ang while investigating the broader case involving the missing sabungeros.
