Justin Baltazar said his stint with Gilas Pilipinas is something he will always treasure, describing it as a rare opportunity that boosted his confidence and helped him grow as a player.

The Converge big man admitted he feels fortunate to have earned a spot on the national team, especially with so many talented players hoping to represent the country.

“Sa dinami-dami ng players dito sa pro at gustong maglaro sa Gilas, e nakasama ako. Sobrang thankful ako. Blessed ako na nakasama sa Gilas. Malaking opportunity sa akin yun na madadala ko dito (Converge),” Baltazar said.

Baltazar joined the national squad under head coach Tim Cone during the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Although his playing time was limited in losses to New Zealand and Australia, he said the entire experience—from training camp to international competition—gave him valuable lessons he plans to apply with the FiberXers.

He also praised teammate Juan Gomez De Liano, who delivered a breakout performance in Gilas Pilipinas' overtime loss to New Zealand.

“Ganda ng pinapakita ni Juan. Kailangan mag-tulungan kami ditong dalawa. Inaasahan din kasi kami dito sa team ng Converge,” he said.

Baltazar has carried that confidence into the PBA Governors' Cup, averaging a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds through the team's first two games. He also posted 16 points and 14 rebounds in Converge's thrilling 105-103 victory over Terrafirma, highlighted by a crucial late block that helped seal the win.

Converge will now look to extend its unbeaten start to three straight victories when it faces guest team Macau Giant Pandas.
