The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has started implementing a new work arrangement for its employees as part of government efforts to conserve energy amid rising global oil prices.

Under Revenue Memorandum Order No. 007-2026, BIR personnel will report to the office from Monday to Thursday, while a work-from-home setup will be observed every Friday. The new arrangement took effect on March 9.

Despite the change, the agency assured the public that essential services will continue without disruption. Frontline services under the Large Taxpayers Service, Regional Offices, and Revenue District Offices will remain open on Fridays, with enough staff assigned to handle taxpayer needs.

These services include taxpayer registration, filing, payment assistance, and responding to inquiries.

The new setup follows a directive from Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urging government agencies to cut electricity and fuel consumption by 10% to 20%.

Along with the hybrid work schedule, the BIR said it will also roll out additional energy-saving measures across its offices. These include reducing electricity use, improving fuel efficiency for government vehicles, and expanding the use of digital services to better serve taxpayers.
