BIR Kicks Off 2026 Strong; Exceeds Revenue Target Early

The Bureau of Internal Revenue is off to a strong start this year, collecting PHP 530.055 billion in net revenues from January 1 to February 28, 2026.
That figure exceeded its target of PHP 527.775 billion by PHP 2.280 billion, allowing the agency to hit 100.43% of its goal, even after accounting for tax refunds.
Compared to the same period in 2025, collections are also up by PHP 15.307 billion, reflecting a 2.97% increase year-on-year. The growth points to steady gains driven by tighter enforcement, improved tax administration, and stronger compliance efforts nationwide.
Despite global economic challenges, the BIR remains confident it can maintain this momentum. The agency says it will continue focusing on efficient revenue collection while ensuring taxpayer rights are protected and public trust is strengthened.
This early performance supports the fiscal agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., under the guidance of Finance Secretary Frederick Go, with priorities centered on fiscal discipline, modernization, and responsive public service.
