Brownlee, Abarrientos Combine For 65 As Ginebra Bounces Back With Big Win

It was a Palm Sunday to remember for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, thanks to a huge one-two punch from Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos.

The duo exploded for a combined 65 points to power Ginebra back to the win column, pulling off a hard-earned 99-93 victory over Converge FiberXers in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Abarrientos set the tone early, keeping the Gin Kings within striking distance through the first three quarters with a breakout 32-point performance. Then came Brownlee, who took over when it mattered most.

After a quiet first half where he struggled with just 11 points on 5-of-20 shooting, Brownlee flipped the switch in the second half, dropping 21 points in the final two quarters to finish with 46 and seal the win.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone admitted the pressure was on after their recent loss.

“You lose on a Friday and play on a Sunday—there’s pressure and it’s a big challenge,” Cone said. Still, his team responded the right way.

With Japeth Aguilar out, Brownlee, Abarrientos, and Troy Rosario stepped up. Rosario chipped in a solid double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, doing the dirty work inside.

Converge actually led by seven at halftime and looked in control early, but Ginebra slowly turned things around and entered the fourth quarter with momentum.

The turning point came late in the game. After a costly inbound error by Alec Stockton, Brownlee capitalized, blowing past the defense and finishing a clutch looper over Kylor Kelley to push the lead to four, 97-93, with just over 30 seconds left.

On the next play, Brownlee delivered again—this time on defense—forcing Mikey Williams into a missed three, effectively sealing the game.

On the other side, Justine Baltazar led Converge with 20 points, while Williams added 16 and Mike Garcia chipped in 15. Kelley was perfect from the field, going 6-of-6 for 13 points and 15 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to stop their slide to a 1-4 record.
