Cebu Pacific Volunteers Bring Brigada Eskwela To Remote Schools

Employees of Cebu Pacific have taken their Brigada Eskwela efforts beyond major cities, reaching some of the country’s most remote schools as part of a campaign to support students and improve learning environments ahead of the new school year.
The low-cost carrier announced that volunteers from its network participated in Brigada Eskwela activities in three “last mile schools” identified as priorities by the Department of Education (DepEd). These include Balakilong Integrated School in Batangas, Cadulawan Elementary School in Cebu, and Cogon Elementary School in Davao del Norte.
Last mile schools are located in geographically isolated, disadvantaged, or conflict-affected areas. According to DepEd, these schools often have fewer than four classrooms, limited or no electricity, insufficient funding for repairs and are typically accessible only through difficult terrain and long travel times.
To help address these challenges, volunteers from Cebu Pacific, ground handling provider 1Aviation, and aircraft maintenance firm Aviation Partnership (Philippines) Corporation joined efforts to clean, repair, and improve school facilities.
Beyond volunteer work, the group also donated classroom cleaning and painting supplies, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning packages, and cash contributions from employees.
“At Cebu Pacific, we are proud to connect Filipinos not only through travel, but through acts of service that create lasting impact far beyond our flights,” said Cebu Pacific Human Resources chief Felix Lopez.
The airline said it plans to continue supporting the three schools and is exploring ways to expand the initiative to benefit more last mile schools across the country.
The project is part of Juan Community, a program of the Gokongwei Group that supports education and community development initiatives nationwide.
