Child Abuse Complaint Against Rob Sy Dismissed, Legal Dispute Continues

A child abuse complaint filed under Republic Act 7610 against actor Rob Sy and his camp has been dismissed by the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office, according to a resolution issued on May 12, 2026.
In a 10-page decision, the prosecutor found no sufficient evidence or probable cause to proceed with the case, noting that the allegations failed to establish a reasonable certainty of conviction in court.
Following the dismissal, Rob Sy released an official statement welcoming the decision, saying it confirms there was “no prima facie case” against them.
He also emphasized that the allegations were “merely based on speculation,” adding that the resolution reinforced the legal principle that accusations alone do not constitute evidence.
Sy further described the complaint as a “narrative reversal,” insisting that the case was built more on public perception and emotional claims rather than verified facts.
He also thanked the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for what he called a fair and objective evaluation of the evidence. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to his family, co-parents, witnesses, supporters, and legal counsel, Atty. DJ Jimenez, for standing by them throughout the process.
Sy added that despite online criticism and what he described as cyberbullying, they chose to rely on formal legal processes and psychological evaluations rather than engage in public arguments.
He said their priority moving forward is to protect the welfare and emotional well-being of their child, calling it a “vindication” for their family.
However, Actor and Quezon City Councilor Alfred Vargas said the legal battle is not yet over.
In a separate statement, Vargas said they respect the court process but stressed that they have yet to receive the official copy of the resolution.
He added that they will continue to explore all legal remedies available, saying that “due process allows us to seek justice” and that the fight for their child is not yet finished.
The case may be closed at the prosecutor’s level, but both sides signaled that the issue could still move to further legal proceedings.
