Creamline Eyes Fourth Straight Win But Galeries Tower Lurks As Dangerous Spoiler
After stumbling early in the conference, the Creamline Cool Smashers have bounced back with three straight victories, reminding everyone why they are perennial contenders. Their recent near-flawless performances have restored that familiar championship aura just as the race to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference heats up.
But Tuesday night offers no easy path.
Creamline faces the unpredictable Galeries Tower Highrisers in the 6:30 p.m. main game, and if there’s one thing the Highrisers have shown, it’s that they are capable of shaking things up. Through five matches, Galeries Tower has alternated wins and losses, making them both dangerous and difficult to read.
The Cool Smashers head into the matchup as slight favorites. After absorbing a shutout loss to the PLDT High Speed Hitters, Creamline responded with authority. They defeated the Choco Mucho Flying Titans and the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles in four sets before sweeping the Capital1 Solar Spikers. The turnaround has been sharp, and the confidence is visible.
Still, in a conference where leads evaporate quickly and momentum shifts without warning, being favored guarantees nothing.
Galeries Tower nearly secured back-to-back wins but let a 2-1 set advantage slip away against Choco Mucho, eventually falling in five sets. The Highrisers have shown flashes of brilliance behind Erika Deloria, Jean Asis, and Gayle Pascual, with Aiza Pontillas, Roselle Baliton, and setter Julia Coronel providing stability. Their biggest hurdle remains consistency and the ability to close out matches.
On the other side, Creamline appears steady and composed. With depth as their biggest weapon, the Cool Smashers are expected to lean on Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, and Bernadette Pons, while Pangs Panaga and Bea de Leon patrol the net on both ends.
“Malaking tulong ‘yung last game namin ngayon kasi medyo dikit siya. Ayun napagusapan nga namin sa team na kailangan namin i-sure ‘yung game ngayon kasi after this, magiging maganda ‘yung situation namin,” said head coach Sherwin Meneses.
He was quick to add a warning.
“Knowing Galeries naman, talagang hindi ka rin pwede magpahinga or magbalewala kasi kita niyo naman ‘yung performance nila.”
Four weeks into the preliminaries, one thing has become clear. No team holds a firm edge, and no advantage feels secure. Every match seems to hang on a single rotation, a single run, or one costly lapse.
Earlier at 4 p.m., Choco Mucho and Nxled collide in another pivotal showdown. Choco Mucho, now 2-3, is regaining rhythm following the return of Eya Laure, who poured in 18 points after missing time due to a groin and abdominal strain. Her comeback snapped a three-game skid and revived the Flying Titans’ semifinal hopes.
Nxled, meanwhile, is searching for answers. After a blazing 3-0 start, the Chameleons have dropped back-to-back four-set losses to Galeries Tower and Akari. Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, and MJ Phillips continue to deliver, but cohesion has wavered at crucial moments.
In a conference defined by fragile leads and sudden surges, both matches promise drama.
And in this season-ending tournament organized by Sports Vision, uncertainty might just be the only sure thing.
