Senator Ronald Dela Rosa reportedly left the Senate premises at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, hours after the shooting incident that triggered alarm and heavy security inside the Senate complex Wednesday night.
The information was reportedly confirmed by a member of the Senate secretariat to another senator early Thursday morning.
Following the incident, speculation quickly spread online claiming that the reported gunfire was allegedly used as a diversion tactic to help Dela Rosa leave the Senate unnoticed.
But lawyer Israelito Torreon immediately dismissed those claims shortly after the shooting incident.
“Some are saying the shooting was just a diversion tactic so Senator Dela Rosa could leave the Senate. Let’s post this so those stories can finally stop,” Torreon said in a statement.
Torreon also expressed gratitude that Dela Rosa, Senate staff, and their legal team were unharmed during the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the reported shooting as questions remain over what exactly happened within or near the Senate premises.
