Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon joined Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Project NOAH Executive Director Mahar Lagmay in revisiting the Matalahib Creek Pumping Station located between Barangay Talayan and Barangay Santo Domingo in Quezon City as part of ongoing efforts to improve flood management in the area.
During the inspection, the team checked the progress of recent works at the facility, including the removal of steel sheet piles and trumpet walls that previously affected water flow. Authorities also reviewed the continuous dredging operations along the San Juan River, which is aimed at improving water movement and reducing the risk of overflow during heavy rains.
The initiative is part of a broader push to ease long-standing flooding problems in several communities in Quezon City, especially as the rainy season begins. Officials noted that faster and smoother water flow through key waterways is expected to help minimize the impact of sudden downpours and monsoon rains.
The project traces back to earlier instructions from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who directed concerned agencies to fast-track improvements at the pumping station in response to recurring flood complaints from residents. Many families in the area have long struggled with seasonal flooding, particularly during habagat and typhoon events.
Authorities said the continuing upgrades and river maintenance work are part of sustained efforts to build more resilient flood control systems and provide long-term relief to affected communities.
