Dizon Moves To Complete Long-Stalled Roads In Samar, Leyte

The government is pushing to finally complete long-delayed road projects in Samar and Leyte, with Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directing authorities to prioritize the completion of key infrastructure across the Eastern Visayas region.
Taking the lead in implementing the directive is Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, who said the goal is to ease the daily travel struggles of motorists and commuters by finishing the region’s long-disconnected priority roads.
According to Dizon, several road projects connecting the three provinces of Samar are already lined up for completion, including other key routes that are critical for both economic development and security efforts in the area.
He noted that some of the projects—particularly those around Lope de Vega—are also important in supporting operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, especially in areas where improved access can strengthen anti-insurgency efforts.
“Many of these priority roads connect the provinces of Samar, and they are essential projects that the President wants completed,” Dizon said following a meeting with local chief executives from Samar and Leyte.
He added that the commitment from the President goes beyond just Samar.
“The President’s commitment is not only for Samar but for the entire Region 8. We will finally implement all these projects,” Dizon stressed.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to improve connectivity in Eastern Visayas, where incomplete and fragmented road networks have long made travel difficult for residents.
Once completed, officials believe the projects will significantly improve mobility, boost local economies, and make daily life easier for communities across the region.
