Dizon Pushes Major Drainage Upgrade On G. Araneta Avenue To Prevent Floods

Quezon City residents along G. Araneta Avenue can now look forward to less flooding as a major drainage project along the busy road has been completed. This improvement is part of the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha program, aimed at strengthening the city’s flood prevention measures ahead of the rainy season.
The upgraded drainage system is now three times larger than the previous one, allowing water to flow more efficiently during heavy rains. This is expected to significantly reduce the frequency and severity of flooding, which has long caused challenges for commuters, local residents, and businesses in the area.
To complement the drainage project, mobile pumping stations have been deployed while the pumping station along E. Rodriguez Avenue is still under construction. Authorities are also continuing dredging and cleanup operations along the San Juan River to ensure that waterways remain clear and can handle large volumes of water during storms.
The Quezon City drainage project is part of a broader effort under Oplan Kontra Baha, which includes river dredging, pumping station upgrades, and additional drainage systems in other flood-prone areas across Metro Manila. These measures are designed to make the city more resilient against flooding, protect residents’ livelihoods, and ensure safer roads during the rainy season.
Officials emphasize ongoing coordination with local authorities and communities to maintain the new infrastructure and maximize its effectiveness in reducing flood risks.
