Dizon Pushes Pedestrian-Friendly EDSA As Rehab Hits 60%

Commuters and pedestrians are finally taking center stage in the ongoing rehabilitation of EDSA, with the government prioritizing safer walkways and more commuter-friendly infrastructure along the country’s busiest road.
Leading the push is Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, who emphasized that the project aims to make EDSA safer and more accessible for the millions of Filipinos who pass through the highway every day.
The rehabilitation project—stretching from Roxas Boulevard to Orense Street—has already reached about 60% completion since work began in December 2025.
According to Dizon, expanding sidewalks is a crucial part of the overhaul because many commuters currently have no safe place to walk along the busy corridor.
“A lot of people really commute along EDSA. It’s dangerous—there are areas without sidewalks, so people end up walking on the road itself,” Dizon said. “That’s why we need to provide proper sidewalks.”
The transport chief also revealed that bike lanes will be integrated with the sidewalks, similar to designs seen in many modern cities abroad. The goal is to create a commuter-centric and pedestrian-friendly EDSA, aligning with the vision of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for a safer and more efficient transport corridor.
Once completed, the upgraded sidewalks and integrated bike lanes are expected to make daily travel along EDSA safer, more organized, and far less stressful for the thousands of pedestrians and commuters who rely on the highway every day.
