DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon took the lead in highlighting the improvements along the Maharlika Highway in Gumaca, Quezon, where a once-problematic intersection has now been fixed, easing traffic for motorists heading south.
During an inspection, Dizon said the difference is clear compared to just a few months ago, when the area was known for its bad road conditions and heavy congestion.
“If you remember, just a few months ago, the situation here in this intersection in Gumaca was really bad,” he shared. “That’s why the repairs were fast-tracked. Now you can see the quality—the concrete is thick and durable.”
According to Dizon, the road upgrade isn’t just about comfort—it’s also about savings.
He echoed the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying that smoother traffic flow helps motorists cut down on travel time and fuel consumption, especially at a time when gasoline prices remain high.
With the Holy Week rush in full swing, the improved stretch of road is expected to benefit thousands of travelers making their way to the Bicol region, offering a more convenient and less stressful journey.
For many motorists, it’s a welcome change—less traffic, less hassle, and hopefully, less spending on gas.
